ECO-INNOVATION AS A BASIS FOR CLEAN PRODUCTION MODEL IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY: AN INSIGHT FROM BULGARIA

Abstract:
In this paper we propose a model for implementation of ecoinnovations of clean production in the SMEs of the food industry in Bulgaria. The clean production is a preventative approach to managing environmental aspects. The paper presents the essence of clean production, the methods for its achievement and outlining the possible options and barriers for SMEs from the food industry in Bulgaria to implement the relevant eco-innovations. The ecological footprint of the food industry makes the need for an integrated implementation of clean production practices from raw material extraction to packaging and waste disposal of final consumer.
